The mood of the riders brightened the deeper into the Cascades they rode. “The wide-open spaces, the fresh air — it’s just so great to be out of New York,” said Caroline von Fluegge, 25, of Manhattan. “There are so many distractions in New York. Here, I feel so focused. All I have to do is follow the road.”
